By asking (and offering a possible answer to) the question "When is a table not just a table?," I have also attempted to ask the questions,"What is the value of the handmade object in this age of technology and information? Do we value originality? Do we value beauty ? Do we value the well-made ? Or, do we value function above all else?"

For although Table: When It's a Bowl surely functions as a place to lay down or display objects, it does so in a way which forces the person using it to more carefully consider what he or she is doing. When I have shown this piece to my friends, they are initially attracted to its graceful lines and finely worked surfaces, but they inevitably ask, "What's it for?" To which I respond,"Exactly!"
