I chose caimitillo not just because it was beautiful, and I could use it in good conscience, but also because it was so mysterious. A very hard, red wood with a delicious spicy scent, the caimitillo stumped as many people trying to guess what it was as the oosik itself did. Its dark tones also helped to dramatically show off the bone, which is suspended from a pearwood yoke.

Inside the drawer is a sachet filled with caimitillo shavings and embroidered with the masculine form of the ancient Greek word for "bone".
