By using a rare, yet ecologically harvested wood (Planchonia papuana), I have also attempted to call into question our relationship to the natural world and its resources: "Does a material's value arise from its scarcity (as in the case of pink ivory), from its familiarity (as with Douglas fir), from its physical properties (as with oak), or from a combination of these properties (for example, mahogany)", and to ask "What value is there in the careful stewardship of the Earth's resources?"
