Ziricote is one of the most remarkable woods I have ever seen: I'm told that it comes from the Yucatan Penninsula, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't't come from this planet. Its grain pattern looks like black and brown sandstone, or an abstract landscape painting. Finding a source of sustainably harvested ziricote is not easy. I bought one plank of it from EcoTimber before I realized how scarce it was, only to find out that they didn't have any more, nor were they likely to get much more of it because the economic pressures to harvest it as fast as possible are too intense for the local Yucatan economy to bear.
